JOHN LENNON: THE PLAYBOY INTERVIEWS SEPT 1980 3 CD

For the first time collected all in one set is a re-creation of John Lennon and Yoko Ono's interview with David Sheff for Playboy magazine in September of 1980.

Conducted on various dates throughout the month at The Dakota in New York City, it's one of the last and most in-depth interviews John Lennon gave during his lifetime.

Culled from a variety of sources, the available portions of the interview have been spliced back together to follow the text of David Sheff's 1981 book The Playboy Interviews

with John Lennon & Yoko Ono, republished in 2000 as All We Are Saying. In all, approximately three hours of the rumoured twenty hour interview have been publicly aired,

and are heard here for the first time in their proper chronological running order.

This collection is sourced from A Heart Play LP, Imagine: John Lennon, Imagine: John Lennon 1987 Workprint, Imagine: John Lennon 1988 Rough Cut, The Beatles Anthology,

The Beatles Anthology: 1993 Director's Cut, 1 Soundbites CD, The Lives Of John Lennon: Fact Or Fiction? radio show, NPR.org, Weekend Edition Saturday radio show,

John Lennon's Jukebox, and 64 episodes of The Lost Lennon Tapes.

The tracks have been split up by chapters, according to the text of David Sheff's partial transcription of the interview as published in All We Are Saying. Because this interview has been so

chopped up in its use in various documentaries, and because the questions from interviewer David Sheff are largely edited out, it's recommended that you get hold of a copy of one of the

Sheff books to follow along with the proceedings. They can be had for pretty cheap -- physical and digital copies can both be had for under $10 in the U.S. One thing that will become

obvious right from the get go is how paraphrased much of the interview is in those books and, by extension, many quotes attributed to John. Whole pieces are skipped over, and John is

occasionally "clarified" to the degree that his answers take on whole different meanings than what is conveyed by the audio. Perhaps most curiously are the transcriptions of Sheff's

questions. He comes off as way more assertive in the transcript than he is on the audio.

Now you can hear it in order. Now you can hear more context. Now you can hear the part of the tape where Lennon and Sheff famously talked while sitting on the bathroom floor. (End of

Chapter 28/beginning of Chapter 29.) Over 3 hours!
