Led Zeppelin (2/Cd) Led Zeppelin / Houses Of The Holy Sessions
Recorded Live At Rolling Stones Mobile Studio Stargroves And Headley Grange Island Studios, London December 1972- August 1972. Digitally Remastered

1973 March The fifth album of Zeppelin was released. The Zeppelin albums up to that point had simply titled the title, and in the fourth album it was a simple thing that even the band name was not mentioned. The tight ring called “the sacred hall” was made only for the fifth time to them. It is said that the meaning that four members become “the house where the spirit lives” will be said. Recording began as soon as 1972, but after resuming in the Australia tour it will resume from April. After that, intermittent, including the recurring American tour, 1972 was devoted to the production of “the sacred building”.

While following the image of the past, the album has evolved into a song that gives the colorful impression of the twelve-string guitar’s tone as a flashy glitter. For the album that had been recorded with an emphasis on live feeling, “Sacred Hall” focused on overlapping overdubs, which was considerably incorporated.

Members prepared numerous songs for this album, but the songs that eventually lost their magazines were to be diverted to the next “physical graffiti”. That’s why the song “Sacred House” which is the same as the title of the album is included in “Physical Graffiti”. Others “Exhausted People”, “Black Country Women”, “Walters Walk”, etc. were found to be songs originally prepared for “Sacred Hall”. This work contains the session sound source of this 5th album “Sacred Hall”.

【BOMPAY REHARSAL】 India has a city called Mumbai. The former official name is Bombay. The plant goes to Bombay at least 4 times and is doing sessions with local musicians. Or they also talked about playing together at local clubs. Here we have included a session that was held when I visited Bombay in March 1972. Although the songs are two songs “Friends” and “Four Sticks”, they are pretty serious, they are taking a lot of take-ups, and even from a state of intense discussion, they were aiming for re-recording despite being already a song It is a fulfilling thing like that. Arrange full of Indian style taste is not transient interest, but the experiences of this time are reflected not only in “Kashimir” to be released later but also in the project of the 90’s Paige Plant.

【ROLLING STONES MOBILE STUDIO】 “Walter’s Walk” which was recorded and released in the “coder (final movement)” after dissolution was the sound source of the session at this time. The same song is recorded three take. Both are pretty rough take, but it is a wonderful take full of speed. The first track is musical instruments only, vocal entry is two take. Although there is a theory that the take recorded in the album “Coda (final movement)” was recorded only in vocals in 1982, as long as you listen to vocals you can listen here, you can approximate singing and voice quality And it seems that it was definitely recorded at this time in 1972.

【ISLAND STUDIOS in LONDON, MIXED at OLYMPIC STUDIOS】 “No Quarter” was recorded from 7 sessions from “Sacred Hall” session held in June 1972. Basically it is the sound matching of three people except the plant, especially John Paul Jones has confirmed the sound of Melotron carefully only by itself. Plant singing with participation, while still in the state of a provisional song, puts a strong effect on the vocal and puts out a mysterious atmosphere matching the tune. It is as if I am struggling to swim in the sea of gelatin. In the release version, it also includes a sweeping Indian musical atmosphere.

【BOLESKINE HOUSE LOCH NESS, SCOTLAND】 Only for this session, it is after a release of the album “Sacred House” in time. In other words, it is not a session of “physical graffiti”, it can be said that it is an experimental musical session performed in the interval between both albums. Indeed, it is experimental music of unknown meaning. Jimmy Page which was trying such a strange visually or sound-soundly on the stage by the theremin or violin bow. Although it is unknown what kind of intention was recorded, the intention of trying a fusion of indian music and rock is still well transmitted.

【HOUSES OF THE HOLY SESSIONS】 This work, including the famous Bombay session, contains session sound sources around the album “Sacred House”. Songs with different tendencies and superimposed over the dubbing sounds of the 12 – string guitar brought about a greatly different musicality, which brought about the pros and cons of the world. The first song “Eternal Poetry” was chosen as the opening number in the 1977 Tour, “No Quarter” was a long time as a point of view of John Paul Jones at the stage, and “Dancing Days” etc. gained popularity on stage It is a song that it did. And at those stages it was a live performance as a matter of necessity, so it was a reproduction within the impossible overdub. Although it is a “holy building” which can not be said to be blessed with outtaking, still think that you can feel Zeppelin of “that era” as a recording artist that is not a stage in this work.

【ISLAND STUDIOS in LONDON, MIXED at OLYMPIC STUDIOS】 1972年6月に行なわれた『聖なる館』のセッションより、「No Quarter」を7テイク収録している。
